Pain interventional procedures for chronic pain may change the symptoms for a period of time to allow improved participation in physical and psychological therapies. Despite being helpful, procedures do not result in a cure for chronic pain.
Diagnostic blocks can be helpful to identify specific targets of pain such as spinal
pain, and can be followed-up with radiofrequency neurotomies that may provide a prolonged period of pain relief.
A device similar to a pacemaker is utilised to target a peripheral nerve which results in pain reduction. The procedure is minimally invasive and therefore can be performed as a trial of therapy. If the trial of therapy is successful, a permanent device can be implanted at a later date.
